Louis Sullivan
(1856-1924)
Architect born in Boston, Massachusetts but studied in Paris. Won the New Exposition building contract (1886) with Dankmar Adler (1844-1900). Sullivan was an early pioneer of the skyscraper. His experimental, functional skeleton constructions of skyscrapers and office blocks, particularly the Stock Exchange, Chicago, earned him the title 'Father of Modernism'.
